Kawasaki KACE review: a budget brand finally builds a tournament-tier shoe
Eighteen months of development, F1-inspired suspension geometry, and SGS-certified cushioning. Kawasaki's flagship court shoe is genuinely a different conversation.
Overview
As Kawasaki’s high-end line, the Master series has long been the brand’s showcase of design and performance. I tested KACE. With a redesigned last and a four-layer stacked upper, it offers a new take on wrap. The midsole pairs dual anti-torsion with structural cushioning, plus a keel suspension system inspired by racing, focusing on support and protection to show the Master line’s flagship level. KACE took a year and a half to develop, was tested by pro athletes, and used costly molds to solve core pain points in badminton—balance of wrap, anti-torsion, and cushioning. SGS lab tests show its shock absorption, outsole wear resistance, and anti-torsion meet SGS Performance Tested Mark requirements for real protection. KACE will also be court gear for pros such as Jacob, Lin Duolin, Fu Tian’an, and Gao Bina, giving stable support for frequent jumps and attack in high-intensity matches. The midsole is the opposite of the upper—openly stacked modules. Dark blue high-rebound material at the heel, a spring-like cushion unit in the middle, and blue clear TPU above (keel suspension) that extends to the midfoot around the built-in carbon plate. In an era of single-block cushioning, KACE’s multi-module structural setup feels rare and thoughtful. The outsole uses biomimetic tread, adding life to an industrial look. Overall KACE looks unified yet detailed—“simple outside, complex inside”—fitting a Master flagship. Versus similar products, KACE uses TPU plus carbon double reinforcement for higher rigidity, stable feet, and efficient force transfer under high load. Adaptive last and structure: A-SHAPE (almond toe) last for narrow Asian feet, less empty space, precise fit. Wrap system: wing adaptive upper, 3D tongue, braided breathable fabric—strong wrap with breathability, solving “too tight hurts, too loose slips.” Cushion and rebound: “Kinetic pod” midsole for strong energy return; “square” midsole tech stores impact and returns it, soft and light; “super-core” foam insole is soft, cushioned, sweat-wicking, anti-slip. Traction and protection: high-wear rubber full-ground grip; forefoot anti-rollover for lateral support; shock-absorbing tread for control in fast turns. Midfoot stabilizer: high-strength carbon links front and rear, supports the arch, improves midfoot anti-torsion. The TPU also extends into the heel counter to bind materials and raise whole-shoe stability. High-rebound heel raises cushioning ceiling and rebound. Anti-torsion uses midfoot TPU wrapping carbon—TPU for outsole twist, carbon for body rigidity. That marks KACE as a pro-level stable protective shoe, clearly aimed at strong, attack-heavy players. Static midfoot: forefoot without keel coverage feels softer than heel. Heel feels firm until heavy step-in, when lower high-rebound shows—built for max jumps and landings. Weight is a highlight. At EU 42 my pair still feels grounded without dragging, but balanced upper and midsole avoid a dragging feel; instead it feels grounded. Given weight, if forefoot were always hard, long high-intensity runs would tire the foot. KACE’s controlled softness does not slow start, absorbs some impact, eases fatigue, and helps endurance. In casual play the midsole can feel plain; in high intensity it “activates”—stable on jump steps and sharp cuts. The new last needs almost no break-in for me—wear and fight. Outsole grip on new shoes is not oily from release agent. Biomimetic tread feels gentler than harsh herringbone, easier to control under big force. KACE has a clear force threshold—calm and restrained at low intensity, “battle mode” under high load with solid, crisp return. For heavier, stronger players who attack in long rallies, it is reliable support for high-intensity endurance.
Look and Finish
The test pair is blue-white, clean and unified. Different blues mark material zones. Besides white leather, large breathable grids show layered texture up close. Laser logos on the tongue and collar add energy on a simple base.
Official Technology
Full-foot anti-torsion: Keel Suspension System (KSS). Dual “K” 3D TPU plus K-TSS arch stability (large TPU plus carbon support) from midfoot to heel.
On-Court Testing
Per-shoe weight (EU 42 test pair): left 411.7 g, right 406.8 g.
Setup Breakdown
As a new Master flagship, KACE’s core is the keel suspension system. One through TPU sits between light-rebound midsole layers, supported by high-rebound heel material.
Static Fit
On and off is smooth. The new last improves wrap without squeeze or width; a little room lets the foot relax. Four upper layers give rich touch—soft inside, supportive outside.
Launch
Forefoot feels soft at rest, but in play the “soft” does not collapse endlessly—deformation is short, then firm ground contact.
Movement
In footwork the upper is tough yet flexible. Slight forefoot lift gives a mild roll in forward runs—faster to the net and smoother forward steps.
Cushioning
KACE has a “force threshold.” Keel TPU between midsole layers is felt first in normal steps; only on big landings and net lunges does heel cushion stand out. That keeps normal steps quick and crisp without mushy lag.
Summary and Recommendation
KACE is Kawasaki Master’s new flagship stable protective shoe. Keel suspension plus nested carbon and dual-density midsole give reliable stability and protection ceiling. Balanced weight and mature last mean near instant match use.
